This scenario remains a possibility, but the team insists on maintaining flexibility on draft night. "When the draft comes around, you have to be like an option quarterback," he said. "You're observing how things unfold. It's still early for us in terms of finalizing our draft board. Particularly as we progress in the draft – being late in the first round – opportunities to trade back might not emerge until the first half of the board is selected, and then we'll assess our position." Need for Defensive Tackle Help With the departures of Johnathan Hankins and Neville Gallimore, the Cowboys have only one defensive tackle remaining from last season's 53-man roster: 2023 first-round pick Mazi Smith. Addressing this position is a major focus in the offseason, and Jones anticipates efforts to bolster it continuing until late in the offseason. "I believe Mazi will progress significantly with another year under his belt – Coach Zim is eager to work with him," he said.
