Alert | The Dallas Cowboys Are Interested in Free Agent DT Jarran Reed

With the Dallas Cowboys were just gifted with the perfect free agent to add to Dan Quinn’s defensive overhaul, and they need to act now. As the Dallas Cowboys look to re-energize their defense under new coordinator Dan Quinn, one player who could really help them out on that side of the ball just became available: Former Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Jarran Reed. Seattle released Reed on Thursday after five seasons with the team. He had been a second-round pick by the Seahawks out of Alabama in the 2016 NFL Draft. Reed played in 72 games for the Seahawks, making 194 combined tackles and registering 22 sacks. He also won’t turn 29-years-old until December, and is still in the midst of his prime. If Quinn and the Cowboys aren’t already on the phone trying to sign Reed, they need to be. Reed played for Quinn’s two mentors of note in Nick Saban at Alabama and Pete Carroll in Seattle. The Seahawks run the same Cover 3 defense Quinn will almost certainly implement in Dallas. While he is no Grady Jarrett, Reed fits in perfectly with the Cowboys. While Reed wanted a long-term deal in Seattle and did not get one, the Cowboys have enough cap space to sign him this offseason. The Cowboys are middle-of-the-pack in the league up against the cap at around $10.2 million. Though Quinn lost his gig with the Atlanta Falcons on his inability to hold leads and generate a pass rush, he was an outstanding defensive coordinator before that.
