‘Observations from Cowboys training camp: Cedrick Wilson continues to impress despite injury scare FRISCO — Cedrick Wilson caught a slant Monday and sprinted away from cornerback Daryl Worley untouched for a long touchdown, the latest example at this training camp of what the oft-injured Cowboys wide receiver can do when healthy. Minutes later, a scare. Wilson winced and hobbled to the nearest sideline after appearing to roll his left ankle at the Ford Center. The team’s medical staff evaluated him for a couple of minutes. Wilson slowly walked toward teammates, hopped around in place, and re-entered team drills. He promptly caught a 25-yard touchdown against Worley over the middle of the field. This is a new year for the Cowboys’ 2018 sixth-round pick. His first NFL season ended on injured reserve following a shoulder injury in training camp. His second season began on the practice squad and ended on IR after a December knee injury. Here in 2020, a healthy Wilson has locked up the Cowboys’ No. 4 receiver job. The depth chart was fairly open to begin camp behind Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and rookie CeeDee Lamb. More comfortable in the offense, Wilson secured the role as one of camp’s most consistent performers. Noah Brown, who missed all of last season to a knee injury, appears to have cemented the No. 5 wide receiver job behind him. The Cowboys could carry six wide receivers on their roster Saturday when they cut from 80 to 53 players by the NFL’s 3 p.m. deadline. Jon’Vea Johnson, Devin Smith, undrafted rookie Aaron Parker, Ventell Bryant and undrafted rookie Tevin Jones are the options. Bryant (knee) isn’t expected to get any action before the decision is made. He suffered a PCL strain in Sunday’s practice at AT&T Stadium, a source said.
