QB Wants 4-Year Contract; Cowboys Offer Surpasses Goff Deal The Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott continue to work for a new long-term contract ahead of the start of free agency, but the two sides remain apart on a few issues. According to Jane Slater of NFL Network, the guarantees in the proposed deal from the Cowboys has gone up, but "the sticking point still seems to be the years of that contract." While Prescott wants a four-year deal, the Cowboys want to lock the quarterback down on a longer contract. Slater also noted the deal would be worth more than what Jared Goff received from the Los Angeles Rams, which pays him $134 million over four years, per Spotrac. Goff is currently tied for third in average annual salary at $33.5 million per year, behind only Russell Wilson and Ben Roethlisberger. When the Cowboys put the exclusive franchise tag on Prescott on March 16, it was after he turned down an updated offer of at least $34 million annually. He had turned down a deal for $33 million annually with $105 million in guarantee money last September. According to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys are prepared to make their quarterback one of the highest-paid players in NFL history. Watkins reports that the Cowboys met with Prescott's representation twice since the the NFL combine -- which ended March 2. Recently, they reportedly offered Prescott a contract which includes an average salary of $33 million with $105 million guaranteed. This contract would exceed Aaron Rodgers' deal in both total money and guaranteed money. Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks most recently reset the market with his four-year, $140 million contract which included $107 million guaranteed -- $70 million that was guaranteed when pen hit paper. So, what’s the holdup? Prescott is reportedly more interested in signing a four-year deal, so he can hit free agency again sooner. Cowboys insider Mike Fisher reports that Dallas has an extension offer for five years at $35 million/annually. It’s reportedly worth $106-plus million in guaranteed money. One side will have to budge on the years before mid-July, or else Prescott will be playing under the franchise tag in 2020.
