Dez Bryant has reached out to Stephen Jones about returning to the Dallas Cowboys

Dez Bryant wants back in the NFL. Here’s what Stephen Jones thinks about a potential Cowboys reunion. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Friday Bryant sent him a text to “keep me in mind” about possibly returning to the team that drafted him in the first round in 2010. “You don’t rule anything out,” Jones said about the 31-year-old Bryant. “We hadn’t had our proverbial hands on Dez in terms of being up close and personal with him in a couple of years. Now, you don’t rule out anything.” Bryant, a three-time Pro Bowl player, who was named to the All-Pro team in 2014, is the Cowboys franchise leader in touchdown receptions (73) and third overall in catches (531) and fifth in receiving yards (7,459). He’s fourth overall in touchdowns. Bryant hasn’t played in the NFL in two years. He missed the entire 2019 season recovering from a torn Achilles suffered while practicing with the New Orleans Saints in 2018. However, Bryant has posted videos of himself working out the last few months, most recently as Thursday, at the Baylor Scott & White Sports Performance Center at The Star in Frisco. “I want to be a part of a team where I’m not the focal point,” Bryant tweeted Thursday afternoon. “I have no problem not being the main guy. I bet I do damage.” The Cowboys have some issues to work through at wide receiver. On the active roster, Amari Cooper is their leading receiver but he’s slated to hit free agency and Jones said he’s a priority to return. Michael Gallup is the No. 2 wideout who produced a solid season. After that, Randall Cobb and Tavon Austin enter free agency and it’s uncertain if the Cowboys will bring them back. Ventell Bryant was mainly used on special teams. Tevin Jones was on the practice squad and Noah Brown, Cedrick Wilson and Jon’Vea Johnson were on the injured lists. Adding Bryant as a veteran No. 3 receiver is intriguing. “You go and look and see how he’s doing and obvious Dez was one of the best players we ever had play here,” Jones said. “A great receiver and had a great career.
