Chidobe Awuzie Switch his Number from #33 to #24 Significance Why the change? Awuzie wore #24 at Oak Grove High School in San Jose, California where he starred on both offense (wide receiver) and defense (cornerback). In fact, as a junior, he scored 7 touchdowns as receiver, scored on a fumble return. He was also a big-time special teams player whose forte was blocking kicks. During his college days at University of Colorado, Awuzie wore #4. He was a 4-year starter and was twice named second team All-Pac 12. During his senior year, he was on the Thorpe Award watch list as one of the top defensive backs in college football. Awuzie could not get #24 last year as an NFL rookie because it was already given to veteran Nolan Carroll who joined the Cowboys in free agency two months before Awuzie was drafted. Carroll was released by the Cowboys on October 11th of the 2017 season. With Carroll no longer on the team and with a new season approaching, the timing was right for Awuzie to make the switch. Notable players in Cowboys’ history that have worn #24 include cornerback Everson Walls who was a finalist this year for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, as well as cornerback Larry Brown, MVP of Super Bowl XXX.
